Travel Planning

Traveling to Zurich for treatment may feel complicated at first, especially if you are coming from another continent. In practice, it is usually much easier once the medical plan is clear. Zurich is one of Europe’s best-connected cities, with a major international airport, direct rail access from the airport to the city, and ELZA Zürich HB located directly at Zurich’s main railway station area. ELZA also states that it can assist international patients with travel, visa requirements, and hotel recommendations.

Arriving to Zurich

Two means: air and train

For air route planning, the best starting point is Zurich Airport’s official website, which lists carriers serving Zurich.

For rail planning inside Switzerland and from nearby European countries, the best official resource is SBB, the Swiss Federal Railways timetable and ticketing portal.

Flights and train options from Europe

If you are traveling from within Europe, Zurich is usually very easy to reach. Zurich Airport’s own 2024 traffic figures say its top European destinations were London, Berlin, and Amsterdam, which gives a good sense of the strength of the network.

For patients coming from nearby countries, rail can also be a very practical option. SBB’s official pages list these typical direct train times to Zurich:

  • Paris to Zurich: about 4 hours 3 minutes by TGV Lyria.
  • Milan to Zurich: about 3 hours 17 minutes direct.
  • Munich to Zurich: about 3 hours 32 minutes direct.
  • Vienna to Zurich: about 7 hours 52 minutes direct, with a night train option as well.

For short-haul flights, a London–Zurich nonstop on SWISS is typically about 2 hours 5 minutes.

Direct travel from North America

For US-based patients, Zurich has strong transatlantic access. Zurich Airport’s 2024 figures identify New York as one of its top intercontinental destinations. Zurich Airport’s airline directory currently includes SWISS, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and American Airlines, and recent Zurich Airport timetable updates mention direct North America routes including New York/JFK, Atlanta, and Dallas.

Useful examples of nonstop travel times:

  • New York to Zurich: about 7 hours 55 minutes on SWISS.
  • Atlanta to Zurich: direct flight time is typically about 8 hours 55 minutes.
  • Dallas to Zurich: direct flying time is about 10 hours.

For many US patients, the simplest approach is an overnight nonstop when available, plus at least a small buffer after arrival before any major appointment.

Direct travel from the Gulf

For patients coming from the Gulf, Dubai is one of the clearest direct gateways to Zurich. Zurich Airport’s 2024 traffic figures list Dubai among its top intercontinental destinations, and Zurich Airport’s airline directory currently includes Emirates and SWISS.

Typical nonstop times:

  • Dubai to Zurich: about 7 hours on Emirates or SWISS.

For many Gulf-region patients, Zurich is attractive not only because of the flight access, but also because Switzerland is already a familiar destination for business, family, and medical travel.

Direct travel from Asia

For patients traveling from Asia, Zurich has strong long-haul access and multiple useful gateway cities. Zurich Airport’s own figures list Bangkok among its top intercontinental destinations, and Zurich Airport’s airline directory includes Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways.

Typical nonstop times:

  • Singapore to Zurich: about 12 hours 50 minutes on SWISS; Singapore Airlines describes the return flight as around 13 hours.
  • Delhi to Zurich: about 8 hours 45 minutes on SWISS.
  • Bangkok to Zurich: about 11 hours 45 minutes on SWISS.

For long-haul patients from Asia, it is usually wise to avoid overly tight schedules and allow enough time for arrival, assessment, treatment, and early follow-up if needed.

The last mile

Getting from Zurich Airport to ELZA

One of Zurich’s biggest advantages is how simple the onward transfer is. Zurich Airport is directly connected to the Swiss rail network, and SBB provides the official timetable and ticketing tools. ELZA Zürich HB is located at Bahnhofplatz 15 in central Zurich, directly at the main station area. For many patients, the journey is simply: airport to Zurich HB by train, then a short walk or local transfer to the clinic.

That convenience matters. It means that even after a long international flight, the final leg of the journey is usually clear and manageable.
