If you’ve never sought medical care outside your own country, the idea can feel daunting – unfamiliar systems, logistics, language, cost. In reality, a visit to ELZA involves a handful of clearly defined parts, most of which we handle together with you. This page walks through all of them, so you know exactly what’s involved before you decide anything.
Most of the apprehension around medical travel comes from not knowing what the process actually looks like. Once it’s broken down into its parts, it tends to look a lot more manageable — because it is.
A visit to ELZA has five components: your diagnostic scans, your travel, your treatment timeline, your accommodation, and the costs involved. Each one is straightforward on its own. None of them need to be figured out before you start — they’re worked through one at a time, in order, with our team guiding each step.
Below is what each part involves, and where to find the detail if you want it.
The plan
We have designed our international patient pathway to reduce uncertainty, save time, and make access to advanced eye care as easy as possible. From the first review of your records to your return home, each step is planned to help you move through the process with clarity and confidence.
Send us your records
The first step is to share your existing medical information with us. This may include medical reports, eye scans, imaging, referral letters, and details of any previous treatment or surgery.
Sending your records in advance helps us understand your case before you travel and makes the entire process more efficient from the start.
Expert review
Once we receive your records, our medical team reviews them carefully. We assess whether we can help, which treatment options may be suitable, and what the likely timeline may look like.
This early review helps reduce unnecessary travel uncertainty and gives you a clearer sense of what to expect before any visit is arranged.
Video consultation
After the initial review, we arrange a personal Zoom consultation to discuss your case in more detail. This is an opportunity to talk through your diagnosis, possible treatment options, expected outcomes, and any questions you may have.
For many patients, this step makes the process feel much more straightforward, because it turns a complex international journey into a clear medical conversation.
Treatment plan
After the consultation, you receive a clear and individualized treatment plan. This includes the recommended procedure, the estimated timing, the expected length of stay in Zurich, the likely follow-up requirements, and the next practical steps.
The goal is to give you a realistic and structured plan so you can make decisions with confidence and prepare your trip properly.
Travel and stay planning
Once your medical plan is in place, we can help make your visit as smooth as possible. This may include guidance on recommended travel dates, hotel options, local transportation, airport transfer coordination, and scheduling of treatment and follow-up visits.
When travel is organized around the medical timeline, the visit becomes much easier and less stressful.
Treatment in Zurich
Your treatment takes place at our institute in the heart of Zurich, directly at the main railway station. This is one of the most accessible medical locations in Switzerland and makes arrival and local travel especially convenient for international patients.
By the time you arrive, the key steps have already been planned, so the visit can focus on your care rather than logistics.
Recovery and return
After treatment, we provide a clear postoperative plan so you know exactly what happens next. This includes your follow-up schedule, travel recommendations, remote check-in options where appropriate, and communication with your local ophthalmologist if needed.
Our aim is not only to guide you through treatment in Zurich, but also to make the recovery phase and your return home feel safe, organized, and well supported.
