Zurich is one of Europe’s best-connected cities, and ELZA is as accessible as it gets within it. From arrival at Zurich Airport to your first consultation, the journey is direct, simple, and entirely on public transport — no transfers, no taxis, no navigating an unfamiliar city.
For many international patients, choosing where to seek specialist medical care means weighing clinical quality against the practical realities of getting there, being there, and recovering there. Zurich makes all three straightforward.
It is one of the most consistently well-ranked cities in the world for quality of life – safe, clean, well-organized, and genuinely navigable for English-speaking visitors. It sits at the center of Europe’s rail network and under one of the continent’s busiest international airports. Its hotels range from intimate and central to iconic and historic. Its infrastructure simply works, in the way that Swiss infrastructure tends to.
For patients traveling a long way for medical care, none of this is trivial. The weeks surrounding a procedure – the travel, the stay, the recovery – are part of the clinical experience. Zurich is a city that makes that experience as easy as it can be.
Wto locations
ELZA’s city-centre location is inside one of Europe’s most remarkable railway stations — the historic main building of Zurich Hauptbahnhof, opened in 1871 and extensively restored to its original character over the past decade. The ELZA consultation rooms occupy the second floor of the station’s eastern wing, in what was historically Alfred Escher’s private office. Escher was the visionary who built Switzerland’s railway network, founded what became Crédit Suisse, and is generally considered the most consequential Swiss figure of the nineteenth century. It is, in short, an address with some history behind it.
Practically speaking, the location means that arriving from the airport, from another Swiss city, or from a connecting train could not be simpler. Zurich HB is the direct terminus of the airport rail line — a ten-minute, non-stop journey with departures every few minutes. The station is also the hub of Zurich’s tram and bus network, with multiple hotel options within a five-minute walk.
ELZA’s dedicated clinical facility in Dietikon is the primary location for procedures and comprehensive diagnostic evaluations. Dietikon is a quiet town in the Limmat Valley, approximately 12 km west of Zurich city centre – familiar to Swiss patients, entirely peaceful for those arriving from abroad. The clinic is a short walk from Dietikon railway station, which is directly connected to Zurich HB and Zurich Airport on the S-Bahn network.
For international patients, the Dietikon clinic is typically where treatment takes place, while Zurich HB serves as the natural first point of contact – initial consultation, pre-operative assessment, and follow-up visits that do not require surgical facilities.
ARRIVING FROM ABROAD

Zurich Airport (ZRH) is Switzerland's largest international airport and one of Europe's principal long-haul hubs. Direct flights connect Zurich to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Singapore, Tokyo, and cities across North America, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Swiss International Air Lines, Lufthansa, Emirates, American Airlines, and dozens of other carriers serve the airport.

From within Europe, Zurich is reachable by direct train from Paris (4 hours), Munich (3.5 hours), Frankfurt (3 hours), Vienna (8 hours), and Milan (3.5 hours) — making it a realistic overland journey with picturesque views for patients from a significant portion of the continent.
If you have time
This is a medical visit, and that is the priority. But if your schedule allows a day before or after your appointments, Zurich repays the time.
The old town sits on the banks of the Limmat River, with a medieval core that is small enough to walk end to end in an hour and dense enough to spend half a day in comfortably. Lake Zurich stretches south from the city – a ten-minute walk from Bahnhofstrasse to the waterfront, and a different world. The Kunsthaus, recently expanded into one of Europe’s largest art museums, holds a serious permanent collection. The Baur au Lac park, directly on the lake, offers the kind of quiet that makes good recovery time.
In every direction beyond the city, Switzerland is a short train ride. The mountains begin within the hour. The pace, for patients who need it, is easy to find here.
